Wheeler Engineering
Authorized Dealer • Upgrade Your Bench
Wheeler Engineering has been the bench-top standard in gunsmithing tools for more than two decades — the brand that invented the F.A.T. Wrench® (Firearm Accurizing Torque), pioneered the Professional Reticle Leveling System, and built its hollow-ground screwdriver bits to fit every screw on more than 100 modern and antique firearms. Part of Battenfeld Technologies and the American Outdoor Brands family in Columbia, Missouri, Wheeler builds the tools professional armorers, competition shooters, and home gunsmiths reach for when precision matters.
About Wheeler Engineering
Wheeler Engineering is one of the flagship brands of Battenfeld Technologies, the Columbia, Missouri-based accessories company founded in 1994 by MidwayUSA's Larry and Brenda Potterfield to build professional-grade shooting sports products under their own name. Battenfeld was acquired by Smith & Wesson in 2014 and now operates under American Outdoor Brands (NASDAQ: AOUT), which spun off as an independent public company in 2020. Wheeler sits alongside sister brands Caldwell Shooting Supplies, Tipton Gun Cleaning Supplies, Frankford Arsenal, and Lockdown Vault Accessories — and its mission has been the same for more than two decades: build the rugged, repeatable, purpose-designed tools that the pros reach for to "Upgrade Your Bench."
Wheeler's most recognizable product is the F.A.T. Wrench® — Firearm Accurizing Torque — a handheld adjustable torque wrench that delivers consistent, repeatable inch-pound settings on scope rings, action screws, and guard screws where a few inch-pounds of over- or under-torque can shift a group on paper. The standard F.A.T. Wrench covers 10–65 inch-pounds for scope-mounting and bedding work; the XL F.A.T. Wrench scales up to 10–150 foot-pounds with a full crowfoot set for AR-15 and LR-308 barrel nuts, muzzle devices, and castle nuts; and the F.A.T. STIX® preset torque driver set delivers the most common scope-ring values in a fixed-torque, grab-and-go format. For armorers who once relied on "tight enough," the F.A.T. line turned torque spec into something anyone can apply at the bench in seconds.
Wheeler's Professional Gunsmithing Screwdriver Sets are the other half of the brand's reputation. Unlike hardware-store drivers, which use tapered tips that cam out of firearm screw slots and gall the finish, Wheeler bits are hollow-ground — the tip is machined with a concave profile so the bit sits fully inside the slot with flat, parallel contact on both walls. To size the bits correctly, Wheeler's engineers measured the screws on more than 100 modern and antique firearms and built the 43-piece, 72-piece, and 89-piece Professional sets around what they actually found. The 89-piece Professional-Plus set includes 54 hollow-ground flat bits, 15 specialty bits, 8 allen, 4 Phillips, 3 Torx, and two magnetic handles in a fitted case — enough coverage for period Winchesters, modern bolt actions, AR platforms, and semi-auto pistols on the same bench.
Beyond torque and screwdrivers, Wheeler builds a full ecosystem for the gunsmith's bench. The Professional Reticle Leveling System uses two CNC-machined, precision-calibrated aluminum level housings — a barrel clamp level and a reference level — to perfectly level a scope on any bolt action, AR, shotgun, or air rifle without the usual string-and-plumb-bob improvisation. The AR Armorer's Ultra Kit, Pro Series AR-15 Armorer Kit, and Delta Series Combo Tool give AR-platform builders a complete set of combo wrenches, receiver blocks, upper vise blocks, pin punches, and torque-capable tools in one case. And Wheeler's scope mounting kits combine the Professional Reticle Leveling System, a laser bore sighter, and a F.A.T. Wrench with bits, thread locker, and a lens pen — everything needed to mount and zero a new optic, packed into a single storage case.
