About US Army Surplus at Keep Shooting
US military surplus is the foundation of the global military-surplus market. The United States operates the largest defense establishment in human history, fields roughly 1.3 million active personnel across six service branches (Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard), and has supplied the surplus market since the 1865 demobilization that ended the Civil War. Keep Shooting's US Army Surplus catalog is by a substantial margin our deepest country-specific catalog — 17 pages and roughly 300+ SKUs covering the full modern equipment ecosystem from OCP Multicam uniforms through MOLLE II load- bearing gear, USMC SFLCS pouches, gas masks, cold-weather gear, religious and chaplain items, branch insignia, and a small section of WWII-era collectibles. For the US-Army-shirts-specific sub-category see our US Army Shirts page.
Modern US Army camouflage — Woodland to UCP to OCP Multicam. US Army camouflage has gone through three major modern eras worth understanding for surplus shopping. The BDU Woodland pattern (1981–2005) was the standard US Army field uniform from the early 1980s through the early 2000s — the four-color woodland design familiar from Operation Desert Storm, Somalia, the Balkans, and early Afghanistan. The ACU UCP (Universal Camouflage Pattern, 2004–2015) was the Army's well-intentioned but poorly- performing digital pattern adopted with the new Army Combat Uniform cut: a grey-tan-green digital design that was meant to work in all environments but was widely criticized for visibility in actual operational environments. UCP was abandoned in 2015 in favor of the current OCP / Operational Camouflage Pattern — which is a US-government-licensed adaptation of the commercial Multicam pattern designed by Crye Precision. OCP Multicam is the standard US Army and Air Force camouflage today and is the dominant pattern across recent surplus production. Our catalog stocks all three eras — ACU UCP for collectors and budget buyers (and current military organizations still using the older pattern in non-deployable roles), OCP Multicam for current-era kit, and small selections of legacy Woodland for WWII-era and later period reenactment.
MOLLE II — modular load bearing. The Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment (MOLLE) system was adopted by the US Army in 1997 to replace the older ALICE (All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment) system that had served from the Vietnam era through the 1990s. MOLLE is built around the PALS (Pouch Attachment Ladder System) webbing — rows of 1-inch-spaced webbing loops on plate carriers, vests, and packs that allow modular attachment of pouches, holsters, and accessories through a snap-and-weave mounting system. The MOLLE II revision (early 2000s) refined the system, and modern US military gear is almost entirely PALS-MOLLE-compatible. Our catalog includes a substantial MOLLE II selection in OCP, ACU, and Multicam patterns: triple-mag pouches, 9mm magazine pouches, 40mm grenade pouches, sustainment pouches, ALICE-clip adapters, canteen pouches, and the broader accessory ecosystem. The USMC SFLCS / MBSS (Special Forces Load Carry System / Modular Body Survival System) is the Marine Corps' parallel modular pouch system — designed for USMC special-operations use but widely compatible with PALS-MOLLE webbing. Our SFLCS catalog includes admin pouches, charge pouches, and general-purpose pouches.
USGI gas masks and NBC equipment. The US military gas mask line has progressed through several major designs. The M40 series (1991+) replaced the older M17 from the Vietnam era. The MCU-2/P is the US Air Force aircrew NBC mask — a single-piece silicone mask optimized for cockpit use with oxygen-system compatibility. The M50 (2008+) is the current standard joint-service NBC mask across Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force ground use — twin-canister design with a substantially improved seal and field-of-view compared to earlier single-canister masks. Our catalog carries the USGI MCU-2/P Gas Mask with Second Skin ($199.95), ADG 40mm NIOSH Gas Mask Filter compatible cartridges ($9.95–$12.95), and the USGI Extreme Cold Weather Mask ($7.95) — the balaclava-style cold-weather face mask in sage green.
The ECWCS layering system — cold weather US-military. The ECWCS Generation III (Extended Cold Weather Clothing System) is the current US Army cold-weather layering system — a 7-level layering protocol from wicking base layer through soft-shell mid layer to hard-shell waterproof outer. The ECWCS system was designed for operations in temperatures down to -60°F and is the equipment behind US Army deployments in Alaska, the Korean DMZ, mountain operations, and the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center. ECWCS components in our catalog include the legacy ECWCS jackets and pants, fleece mid- layers, base-layer thermals, and the gore-tex outer-shell garments. Cold-weather socks, gloves, and the ASEK aircrew survival equipment round out the cold-weather kit.
USAF ABU Tiger Stripe. The Airman Battle Uniform (ABU, 2007–2021) was the US Air Force's distinctive Tiger Stripe digital camouflage — gray-blue digital pixelation that differentiated USAF airmen from US Army UCP-clad personnel. The ABU was retired in 2021 in favor of joint OCP adoption, but ABU surplus has accumulated substantially and our catalog has a strong USAF ABU section: ABU camo pants, baton pouches, flashlight pouches, M14 and M4 magazine pouches, canteen pouches, handcuff pouches, ALICE- clip adapters, the APECS parka (cold-weather rain jacket), and the windbreaker jacket and track pants for Air Force PT use. The ABU surplus is a particularly striking pattern visually and has accumulated a strong civilian following beyond its operational use.
USMC and Marine Corps gear. Beyond the SFLCS pouches, our Marine Corps gear section covers the MARPAT (Marine Pattern) digital camouflage adopted by USMC in 2002 — the Marines' answer to ACU UCP, and a pattern that performed substantially better in operational evaluation. MARPAT comes in two color variants: Woodland (digital green/brown for temperate environments) and Desert (digital tan for arid environments). Our catalog includes the USMC Coyote MOLLE Fighting Load Carrier Vest ($19.95) — the standard chest-rig platform issued to Marines, with full PALS webbing and integrated rifle-magazine pouches.
Insignia, religious, and ceremonial items. A distinctive corner of our US catalog is the substantial collection of unit and branch insignia, religious / chaplain gear, and ceremonial items. Branch insignia covers Chemical Corps, Corps of Engineers, Infantry, Artillery, Armor, Signal Corps, and dozens of other branches. Religious items include the US Army Christian Chaplain Kit, the Catholic Rosary, the Celtic Cross Pendant, and the Chaplain Cloth Finger Towel for Catholic and Protestant chaplain ministry in deployed environments. Ceremonial items include the US Army Base Flag and various dress-uniform items (blue wool dress pants, dress gloves, jump boots). For a militaria collector documenting US Army organizational structure and ceremonial tradition, the breadth of insignia and chaplain gear in our catalog is unusually thorough.
WWII collectibles — the deep history. Among the more striking items in our US catalog is the US WWII M6 Sherman Tank Periscope ($79.95) — a genuine WWII-era M4 Sherman tank commander's periscope, the instrument through which the tank commander observed the battlefield with hatches closed. The M6 periscope is one of the more unusual and historically-rich items in our catalog and a striking addition to any WWII-armor collector's display. The broader WWII section includes M1 helmet liners, period-correct webbing, BAR magazines, M1 Garand accessories, and other WWII-vintage US-issue items. For component-level WWII firearm shopping see our M1 Garand Parts and M1 Carbine Parts categories.
The APFU PT uniform. Worth a specific note: the APFU (Army Physical Fitness Uniform) is the US Army's physical-training uniform — adopted in 2017 as a black-and-gold replacement for the older grey-and- black IPFU. The APFU includes a track-style jacket, athletic shorts, athletic shirts, and a track-style pants set, all with gold "ARMY" lettering on black fabric. Our catalog includes the US Army APFU PT Jacket ($39.95) — useful for active-duty and reserve soldiers replacing PT gear, ROTC cadets, and civilian buyers looking for distinctive official-Army athletic wear.
NATO ally and broader surplus context. US Army surplus is the parent catalog for the broader Western military surplus ecosystem. NATO allies' gear shares substantial design patterns with US gear, and the British Army Surplus, German Army Surplus, and French Army Surplus catalogs are natural NATO companions. For cross-platform shopping see our Military Surplus hub. Specialized sub-categories include Jackets, Pants, Shirts, Footwear, Helmets, MOLLE Gear, MOLLE Pouches, Gas Masks, Patches & Insignia, and Religious Items.
